Phil has always been one of the most amazing, caring, enthusiastic  and kind people whom  I  have ever had the privilege of being his  friend and physician.

Phil always had faith in himself, his wonderful wife, children and grandchildren so that no obstacle would stop his living a complete, and meaningful life.   

Phil not only managed most of his care in a  professional manner, but taught so many patients with type  I and II diabetes how to  test, regulate and manage sugars using newest technology that he also assisted them in obtaining and setting up. . Given his aptitude and experience, Phil’s ability to communicate and teach patients in my practice frequently surpassed my own abilities at times. He was humble and kind. 

We  became friends after years and years of my serving as his physician.  Eventually, his thirst for knowledge to investigate  cutting edge ideas, and to ask questions related mechanisms of actions of medications in our studies or how to limit and optimally treat disease, and his exceptional knowledge of Human Resources  and insurances led to his working and volunteering as a regular in my medical office.  Patients, staff and venders loved him.

Phil was so dependable- even during Covid.  He was kind, compassionate, and always there for an emergency.  He loved to help us al  and his assistance often invaluable.

Some of my research projects were borne in part by Phil’s willingness to perform tedious internet and medical searches and data analysis.   Phil gave so much of himself to our entire  office family, I  could never quantitate how much he meant, and never  thank  him enough.   The picture above is how Phil loved to analyze our work on CIMT,  or proteinuria reduction on computers.   Alongside residents and medical students,  Phil loved his white coat and his title “Professor Phil”.

Dear Mrs. Lerner:

I was one of Dr. Lerner's last patients before he retired.  His efforts, skill, devotion and tenacity are the reason that I am still alive today.  Dr. Lerner never gave up on me an he saved my life.  Not a day goes by that I do not think I him at some point.
