

Dr. Robert David Zaas died Aug. 5, 2017. Robert was born in Cleveland on Apr. 1, 1931. He was a graudate of Cleveland Heights High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Case Western Reserve University. He was a member of the class of 1957 of the University of Chicago Medical School and completed his medical residency in Indianapolis at the University of Indiana. Robert served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy stationed in Long Beach, Calif. and was on active duty on the USS Yorktown in the Pacific Ocean from 1958-1961. Robert had his medical practice in University Heights as an orthopedic surgeon affiliated with Mt. Sinai and Hillcrest hospitals. He was a member of the Cleveland Orthopedic Society. Robert enjoyed classical music, was an accomplished flutist, and was a patron supporter of the Cleveland Orchestra. He loved to attend concerts at Blossom Music Center. He also enjoyed hiking in the Western United States and Pennsylvania mountains with his wife, Carol, and their pet beagle. He loved tending his flower gardens and was a Cleveland sports fanatic. Beloved husband of the late Carol Zaas; loving father of Wendee Barbara Zaas of University Heights and Terence Michael Zaas (Robin McAllister Zaas) of Powell, Ohio; proud grandfather of Robert, Scout, Alexandra and the late Isabella. Son of the late Samuel Zaas and Rhea Lapson Zaas and brother of the late Carole Myerson. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2017 at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple, 23737 Fairmount Blvd., in Beachwood. Family will receive at Fairmount Temple following the services until 5P.M.. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Robert D.
