Elizabeth Tsigal

Elizabeth was born in Odessa, Ukraine, to Ilya Tsigal and Fanya Presman. She was very proud of her parents and remained deeply connected throughout her life to Odessa and the Black Sea.

She married Konstantin Borin on October 7, 1977. Together with their son, Boris, they left the Soviet Union in late 1988 and immigrated to the United States with assistance from Jewish Family Services, arriving in Cleveland in 1989.

Elizabeth worked hard to build a successful professional career. She began as a mechanical draftsman, became an engineer, later worked as a buyer, and eventually became an operations manager. She spent most of her career with Stanley Air Tools, with several years at Warren Rupp in Mansfield, Ohio, before returning to Stanley.

Elizabeth and Konstantin enjoyed spending summers at their dacha near the Black Sea, where they welcomed family and friends and shared meals featuring fresh fruits and vegetables grown on the property. Later, they enjoyed traveling together, particularly Caribbean vacations and cruises.

Elizabeth maintained many lifelong friendships from the former Soviet Union. Over the years, a number of those friends also emigrated to the United States and Canada, and those friendships continued across decades and distance.

She took great pride in her grandchildren and their accomplishments, especially Eli’s gymnastics and Dina’s skating and earlier rhythmic gymnastics.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Konstantin Borin, who passed away in 2020, and by her parents, Ilya Tsigal and Fanya Presman.

She is survived by her son, Boris Borin; daughter-in-law, Irina Borin; grandchildren, Eli Borin and Dina Borin; and many longtime friends in the United States, Canada, and abroad.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd at 2:00pm at the Berkowitz Kumin Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 S. Taylor Road, in Cleveland Heights. Interment will follow at Mt. Family and friends are invited to a reception following the burial at Europa Restaurant, 30519 Pinetree Road, in the Landerwood Plaza shopping Center, beginning at 4:00pm until 8:00pm.
