Dear Elise and Mr. Weiskopf,
Erika was a special friend to me, and to everyone she met at Camp Echo. These many years later, everyone with whom I’ve reached out to about Erika has immediately responded — dropped what they were doing — and shared how profoundly sad they were. “Oh no. I love Erika…The sweetest girl ever..Such a good person…Wonderful friend.” Different people, people with whom I’d not spoken in ages. Every single one, heartbroken. The list of superlatives about Erika could fill a book. She should be alive to hear them. And yet, here we are, saying a very bitter and unjust goodbye to this beautiful soul.  I don’t have the words to express how sorry I am. One thing I can promise is that Erika is not forgotten, and will never be. You don’t cross paths with many people like her in this life. How fortunate we were to be among the few who were blessed by her love.
