Eugene “ Gene/Gumpah” Friedman beloved husband of 58 years to Francine Friedman (nee Wynbrandt), passed away peacefully June 28, 2020. He is survived by his loving family; children Hallie (Larry) Rosen, Lisa (Scott) Ettkin, and Jason (Laurie) Friedman; and grandchildren Sam, Marley, Camryn, Logan, Dylan and Tyler.

Gene,82, was the son of Harry and Sarah (nee Levine) Friedman; brothers Dr. Seymour (Elinor) Friedman and Dr. Arnold (Sally) Friedman all deceased; and survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Jay Orzan, and many beloved family members and friends.

He was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School and attended The Ohio State University and Fenn College. He was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity. Gene served in the United States Coast Guard and began a successful career in the sales industry. Before retirement, he created his company “I Drive U”. Gene loved driving people wherever they needed to go, telling jokes and stories along the way.

Gumpah was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing sports, attending sporting events, coaching, and especially cheering on his grandchildren playing all their sports! He had a great love for trivia, poker, traveling, telling stories and jokes, and of course being with his family.

Private graveside services will be held June 30 at Mount Olive Cemetery.

Dearest Fran and Family,

I was so saddened to hear of Gene’s passing ! My heart and I are with you all at this time of grief.
The Friedman Family and the Woldman Family go way back in History when my dad, Meyer wanted to fix Harry up with his sister Margaret. They were getting together at a wedding which they all crashed. When my dad saw the girls he and Harry who didn’t know either one started walking towards them. He looked at my dad and said “Meyer I’m going to marry that girl”. The only thing was that the girl he was talking about was Sarah, not my dad’s sister. So history began and they were married. The Woldman’s and the Friedman’s were not only friends but were considered Family. We all shared many fond memories together.

Gene will always be in my thoughts and you Fran in my prayers with fond memories and Love to you All,
Marcia Woldman, Greene

My deepest sympathies to the entire Friedman family. I was always impressed with the family closeness. You will all have such wonderful memories of gumpa for the rest of your lives. You will laugh at many of the things you shared. You are a very special family. I am glad I got to know Gene a little. I loved his old jokes when we played mahjong at his house.

I will never forget the" unending" story of the fire drill escape from my dorm, during a welcomed visit and dinner while I was a student at Univ of Toledo. Gene always had a smile and a story to share. He will be missed.

To Gene's wife, children and grandchildren -
We moved to Arizona over 30 years ago and Gene picked us up from and drove us to the airport countless times. What a gem of a person. We always enjoyed hearing his stories about all of you, his family. We had a lot of fun reminiscing about all the people we knew in common and spoke of his brother, the pediatrician who happened to be our daughter's pediatrician when she was delivered at Mt Sinai. Gene seemed like a person who enjoyed the moment and appreciated the little things in life. He was a pleasure to know. Best to all of you. May Gene "Gumpah" rest in peace.
