Eugene Katz

Eugene Katz, age 93, passed away peacefully last week, leaving behind a legacy rich in music, art, and adventure. Throughout his life, Eugene was passionate about jazz, playing the clarinet and saxophone with dedication. He performed with the United States Air Force Band, and numerous other ensembles. An avid collector of music and a lover of contemporary art, Eugene appreciated creativity in all its forms and did so by hunting for collectables at garage and estate sales.

He was an active man who kept himself fit through daily walks in the neighborhoods of South Euclid and Sunrise, FL, exemplifying his zest for life and vitality. Professionally, Eugene was an ethical and respected insurance salesman with John Hancock, known for his integrity and kindness.

Eugene is survived by his children, Ellis (Cathy) Katz and Sheryl (Marvin) Kravitz; grandchildren, Aaron Katz, Sarah (Brian) Bell, Jackie (Greg) Nachman, Bryan Kravitz, Hannah (Mike) Tropsha; and great-grandchildren, Emmet and Maddy Nachman, Lucas and Logan Bell, and Tyler and Colin Tropsha. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Hank Gold. Eugene was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Hank Rosen, and his beloved soulmate of over 60 years, Rochelle.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery, 27855 Aurora Road, Solon, Ohio.

Shiva will be observed at the Kravitz residence, 5415 Golfway Lane, Lyndhurst, Ohio, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday only.

Memorial contributions may be made in Eugene's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, or the Playhouse Square Foundation.
