Fay Silverman

Fay Silverman (née Parnes), beloved wife of the late Alvin B. Silverman, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She shared a remarkable 64-year marriage with Alvin, built on devotion, partnership, and unwavering love.

She was the loving mother of Michele (Marc-Dec) Krantz and Joel (Nancy) Silverman; cherished sister of Irma (Dave Tendler) Friedman and the late Murray Parnes; and devoted grandmother of Ellen, Tara, Ross, Jessica, Rachel, and Benny, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Fay graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, New York. After beginning her career as a bookkeeper, she put her professional aspirations on hold to raise her family. Once her children were older, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by returning to college, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehman College and a Master of Social Work degree from Hunter College.

Fay went on to enjoy a distinguished 20-year career as a social worker, eventually becoming the head of the social work department at a large chronic care hospital in New York. Her intelligence, compassion, and dedication to helping others earned her the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of countless patients and families.

Family was always at the center of Fay's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love knew no bounds. During Alvin's later years, she cared for him with extraordinary devotion and joy, insisting on doing so herself despite the physical challenges. Though much smaller in stature than her husband, she ingeniously found ways to lift, move, and care for him. Those who witnessed her remarkable determination affectionately referred to her as a "biomechanical engineer," admiring the creativity and love she brought to his care.

Fay embraced life with enthusiasm. She enjoyed tennis and golf, loved music and the theater, and treasured time spent with family and friends. Her warmth, strength, wisdom, and sense of humor touched everyone who knew her.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at The Ashton and Home Instead for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Fay.

Services will be held on Monday, July 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 South Taylor Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Interment will follow at Mayfield Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Michele Krantz, 2499 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, on Monday from 7:00–9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. Parking is available on Cedar Road, Fairmount Boulevard, or in the parking lot behind Luna's.
