It’s Valentine’s Day 2023. I’m going full throttle to clear out closets and came across some notes from Gert through the years. I designed the interiors of the homes she shared with Shelly. Always thoughtful of staying in touch and always gracious about expressing the happiness they shared in those homes they allowed me to create. I only learned of her passing today, Valentines Day… how fitting is that?  Rest In Peace my sweet friend. John Florian Koncar

Sorry for the loss of your beloved Mother and Grandmother 

Dear Gerty,
Today was a sad day, but also beautiful. It was sunny, mild and calm.  But every once in a while during the service, a breeze came up, flapping the top of the awning and I thought "Gerty is here".
We are first cousins and grew up together.  You were always the ambitious one, and even theatrical in our early years when you wanted us to put on plays at Grandma & Grandpa's house on Sundays. Our famous one was "Little Black Sambo", no longer politically acceptable.
I will miss you and our visits.  You no longer have pain.  I love you.

I am much saddened to learn of Gert's sudden death.  Gert and I wrote together In Linda Tuthill's creative writing class CWRU 
for several years.  Some of her memoirs were very funny and so well written.  She wrote about all of her family and her many friends with clear, concise words.  We drove to class together when she gave up driving a few years ago, and stayed in touch when she spent winters in Florida. I am a retired Orange Village Councilwoman of 32 years .  Gert and Shelly both were my supporters.  We had many political discussions.  Gert was a stoic through her medical and surgical issues and she was intensely proud of being a docent for the Maltz Museum.  A highly educated and competent woman.  I shall miss her very much.
My love and prayers are with all of you at this sad time.   May her
memory be for a blessing.

I always loved seeing Gert at the Library Book Club gatherings, Shabbat Services, Purim Carnival,  etc. and especially when her granddaughter visited to sing for our congregants. She always had her special smile and friendly greeting. So sorry for your loss. 

Many happy Memories from the 1960’s and 1970’s with cousin Gerty ALWAYS making sure all of the family was happy and involved in lively thought provoking conversation!

Gert was a remarkable woman of many talents   Her caring nature and empathy were among  her many personal attributes.
I used  to marvel at  the long walks she would  take from the condo to the hotel.
She was beautiful on the inside and out and I feel blessed to have known her for more than 20 years.

Your parents/grandparents were dear friends of our parents at Ocean Reef for many years and Gert and our mom remained friends for years after our fathers passed away.  When we visited ORC, Gert was always friendly and definitely a strong presence in the Jewish community there.  Our mom and she often led Friday night services together.  We read her articles in the Ocean Reef Press and enjoyed our conversations during our visits.  We know how much she loved her family and her life at ORC and she will missed by so many.  We send our sincerest condolences to all of her family.
