

Irving was a good father who is survived by two sons and a daughter, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was the husband of Zerda Malkin (nee Cohen), born in Oil City, PA, who passed away in September of 2016. He was brother to Sanford, Harvey and Leonard Malkin, deceased, and Lee Malkin, living in McAllen, Texas.
Irving worked for many years as a chemist at Diamond Shamrock, retiring in 1985. For many years afterwards, Irv and Zerda owned Shorehaven Cottages, rental cottages at Pymatuning Lake.
He had a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University. He lived in Cleveland, OH since 1943.
Irving was an avid racer of Mirror Dinghy sailboats, frequently attending national and international championships and serving as admiral of the Cleveland fleet. He volunteered as a trail monitor for the Cleveland Metro Parks System.
Irving also volunteered assisting the elderly with their tax filings through AARP, leading the effort in the Cleveland area. He, along with his wife won an award from the Ohio governor’s office for their volunteer service.
Irving is survived by his children Greg (Karen Tucker), Bob (Alexi Gruber), and Delle Rayner; grandchildren Leah Hadley (Mike), Hal Lange (Heather), Shaina Malkin (Ben Kneen), Rebekah Malkin, and Jacob Malkin; and great-grandchildren Aurora (Lange), Alex (Lange), Jeremiah (Villalobos), Sonya (Villalobos), Christopher (Villalobos), and Alice (Kneen).
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel (1985 South Taylor Road, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118).
Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery (27855 Aurora Rd, Solon, OH 44139) on Sunday, December 30.
The family will also be receiving visitors at the home of Greg Malkin (4146 Giles Road, Moreland Hills, 44022) on December 30, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, and on December 31, from noon to 3pm. Alexi and Bob will be receiving visitors at their home (131 E Davie Street Apartment 401, Raleigh, NC, 27601) from 1:00 – 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 6.
