

SPITZ IRVING "BUDDY" SPITZ. Buddy passed away August 16, at the age of 90, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in Cleveland in 1924 to Nellie and Isadore Spitz. Buddy was the owner of the Theatrical Restaurant, the historical downtown Cleveland "place to be" on Short Vincent Avenue, where he often stood up front greeting guests. Throughout his life he shared his wisdom, his intellect, his love of a good debate, and his great stories. He continued to play and win gin rummy against all comers until the day of his passing. Buddy and his wife, Virginia, have been generous philanthropists, including establishing the UH Masters Clinician of Cardiology and the Irving and Virginia Spitz Scholars at the UH Neurological Institute, as well as many charitable contributions to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and other causes. He loved his family including his wife, Virginia, also Phyllis (deceased), his three children, Jeffrey (Linda), Jackie Schwartz, and Sandra (Irwin) Goldstein. He is also survived by his step-children Sandy (Tom) Deters, David (Diane) Kater and Donna Kater, his grandchildren, Brian (Elise) Spitz, Daniel (Wendy) Spitz, Andrew (Marla) Spitz, Matthew and Adam Schwartz, Stacy (Craig) Masur, Todd (Chelsea) Goldstein, step-grandchildren Elliot, Scott, William and Katherine Kater, great grandchildren Paige, Rowen, Tyler, Haley, and Maya Spitz, Sydney and Mason Schwartz, Samantha and Lexi Masur. Services will be held at BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1985 S. TAYLOR RD., CLEVELAND HTS. on Monday, August 18 at 12 noon. Interment Lake View Cemetery. Family will be receiving at the home of Jeffrey & Linda Spitz 4165 Cambridge Court, Orange Village, OH FOLLOWING BURIAL MONDAY UNTIL 8 PM AND TUESDAY FROM 1 TO 4 AND 6 TO 8 PM.
