Isadore Israel "Sonny" Sonkin

ISADORE ISRAEL “SONNY” SONKIN. Born October 14, 1930, died on January 3, 2025 at the age of 94. Devoted son of Ben Sonkin and Jean Sonkin (née Weisberg). Beloved husband of Renee Sonkin (née Siegel) for 63 wonderful years. Cherished father of Susan Cherchiglia (née Sonkin), Janice Newman (née Sonkin), (Richard Newman) and Kenneth Sonkin (Mary Beth Smith-Sonkin); adoring grandfather of Jessica Goldsmith (née Newman), (Jeff Goldsmith), Brian Cherchiglia, Joseph Newman (Allie Allen),

Jacob Newman (Sophia Naide) and Evan Cherchiglia; and great grandfather to Lucy, Sadie, Rita, and Darla; dear brother of Laura Landy of Del Ray Beach, FL.

Sonny graduated from Ashtabula High School and Ohio University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity. He was ROTC at O.U. and went on to serve as a lieutenant in the US Airforce. He became a Project Management Specialist for NASA Lewis Research Center and worked there for close to thirty years. Sonny and Renee were lifelong members of The Temple-Tifereth Israel. Graveside Services will be held at The Mayfield Cemetery 2749 Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
