Jane Schuster Wolf almost bowled a perfect game. Her response to finishing one strike shy of reaching perfection was to pick up the ball and keep playing. Jane was a tenacious player, competitor and teammate. She loved the game (all the games), she loved her life, she loved her husband, she loved her family.
Jane Wolf died peacefully in her own home on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Jane was comforted by the company and compassion of her family and caregivers.
Beloved wife for over seventy years of the late James B. Wolf Jr., Jane was the proud mother of Jody Linn, James S Wolf (Christine), John Wolf (Theodora) and Joan Swain (David). Jane was the loving grandmother of Christopher Wolf (Katie), Scott Linn (Stephanie), Jamie Greenwolf (Amber), Kamryn Wolf, Alexander Wolf (Stephen Praetorius), Matthew Swain, Michael Swain (Meaghan) and William Swain. Jane’s three great grandchildren, Oliver Greenwolf, Summer Linn and Simon Linn, gave her great joy as she watched the latest generation emerge.
Jane graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and obtained an Associate Degree from Briarcliff Junior College in New York. Upon returning to Cleveland, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University. She balanced raising a family while working for Cuyahoga County Child Welfare and later as an early employee of The Cleveland Scholarship Program in the 1970s.
Jane actively volunteered throughout her life seeking meaningful roles in order to make a difference in our community. She was active in the Cancer Society, instrumental in launching the Corporate Sports Challenge for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, helped found The Rainbow Classic Golf Tournament and served as a Trustee of the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Foundation Board. Her term on the Rainbow Board culminating in her serving as President from 1988 to 1990 and being designated an Honorary Life Trustee.
Jane and Jim founded The Wolf Family Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland over 25 years ago to make a direct impact on our community. The Family Foundation is truly a family effort and will endure beyond their individual legacies.
Jane’s passion for giving back to the community was complimented by her commitment to family, sports and travel. She loved to merge those passions on the golf courses of Hawaii, the mountains of Colorado, and many other foreign and domestic destinations.
Mostly we will miss Jane’s robust presence and her enthusiasm for life. She never took her good fortune for granted. A private memorial service will be held. Family requests no visitations at this time. Friends who wish may make contributions to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital or a charity of their choice.
