Born to Morris and Eva Shon, Jean lived a joyful and full life filled with family, laughter, and the simple pleasures she loved. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a youthful spirit that made it seem as though she never aged.
Jean enjoyed traveling, reading, watching Perry Mason, and indulging in her favorite chocolate. She looked forward to her walks to get the mail and took great pride in keeping her home neat and cared for. She enjoyed cleaning and doing laundry and found satisfaction in making everything just right.
Above all, Jean loved her family. She especially treasured the Shon family and cherished the time she spent with those closest to her. Her warmth, kindness, humor, and joyful spirit brought happiness to the lives of those around her.
Jean is survived by her loving daughter, Shelley LaCagnin (Michael); her grandson, Keith LaCagnin (Ansley); and her great-grandchildren, Silas and Rhodes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Eva Shon; her sons, Larry, Lee and Kenny Gilbert; her brother, Leon Shon and his wife Gertrude; and her beloved companion, Shelly Katz.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Mayfield Cemetery, 2749 Mayfield Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44106.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of the family’s choice.
Jean will be remembered for her joyful heart, wonderful sense of humor, love of family, and the many little things that made her uniquely Jean. Her presence brought warmth and laughter to those who knew her, and her memory will remain a cherished part of the lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
We would like to thank the staff at Arden Courts for their compassion and caring.
