I was the nurse/friend that took care of her brother Richard Hoagland in Hamilton, Ohio. Joan and Sid were just the sweetest! I just happened to come across a letter Joan wrote me when I was watching after/caring for Richard while I was able to safely keep him in his apartment until he had to go to a facility. I continued to visit and upheld my promise to take him back home to St. Mary's in the spring not long before he passed.  She loved her brother! We need more people in the world like Joan and Wilder.

Joana certainly had a knack for expressing moments in life in succinct and often moving poetry.  I enjoyed sharing the Sunday Poets group meetings with her. 

Enjoyed our short drive to poetry class. She marveled at how a little girl from  St. Mary's OH made it in the big city.  

I remember waiting with great expectations to hear Joan read her latest poem, always fresh always new, fresh, again and again.
