What a sad sad surprise. I am so sorry for your lost. Judy was my nutritionist for my PKU for many years. I would always see her when back in Cleveland. RIP JUDY YOU WILL BE MISSED.

I have known Judy since I was a psychology trainee, and she led me through her work with patients with PKU and with Prader Willi Syndrome.  Judy was so psychologically minded and was a huge supporter of research to help patients.  She was also lively and funny - I missed her so much after her retirement!  She has given a lot to so many - patients, their families, and all of her many colleagues at UH.  She will be greatly missed!!  My sympathies to her family - she spoke of all of you fondly.

Dear McConnells, 
I was stunned to hear of Judy's passing. She was such a force of nature, it never occurred to me that her life would ever end! I'm grateful to have known her and all of you. I hope God surrounds you now with His comfort and love.

My son was diagnosed with Type1 as a 16 year old--shocking and devastating diagnosis for sure. But Judy was truly a bright light! She guided him thru his carb journey with humor and understanding. She never lectured about drinking beer or not eating right--but showed him how to manage his diabetes for his life-style. He's now 28 years old and doing great! We both credit Judy for heading him in the right direction for a lifetime. She will always be in our heart.

Judy and her family were our neighbors in Decatur for several years.  We all loved Judy.  She was always such a bright light and a joy to be around.   I know she'll be missed by everyone who knew her.  She was one very special lady!  My heart goes out to her family and friends.

I'm so sorry for your loss McConnell family. I felt blessed to know Judy and be her office mate at UH. I loved her joy, compassion and care for her patients, wonderful eye glasses, beautiful needlepoint and the stories and photos of her family. She had a Christmas cactus that I envied year round for its beauty and prolific blooms. I still can't see one without thinking of Judy. That will not change and I'll still hear her laughter when I complain about my cactus that never blooms. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Judy was one of the kindest, most generous, and most courageous people I have known.  Several years after her retirement, her former patients are still warmly praising all she did to improve their lives.  She was loved by so many: family, friends and former colleagues. It is impossible to describe how important Judy's dietary management, teaching and her overall kindness have been to her patients, colleagues and friends at University Hospitals.  We miss you Judy, and our thoughts are with Jim and the rest of our your family.

I am sure that I am one among many of Judy's "Needlepoint Ladies" that will miss her like crazy. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that she was a fabulous mom, wife, sister, aunt, grandma, etc. But I will always remember her for her deep seated, passionate need to express herself creatively, especially with needlepoint. And she did so with such elegance and finesse! Judy's craftsmanship was second to none and her sense of (often vibrant!) color was nothing short of masterly. I enjoyed every minute talking color and texture with her and we "collaborated" on many beautiful projects together. I say "collaborated" but all the good ideas were Judy's! I will never forget Judy and her wonderful exuberant energy. I hope her family knows how many people she inspired with her imagination and flair: I am certainly one of them. I will miss her.

Judy was a remarkable woman who will be missed.  She had such a devotion for her husband Jim and her family that everyone should admire.  I enjoyed hearing her needle point stories and her family.  You will always have a special place in my heart.
