Kaill "Claire" Nyman, Kaill was born in Poland, on November 5, 1919, the daughter of Jack (Yacov Bendit) Nyman and Blumke Wopnick. When Kaill was two, Jack sailed for America in 1921, with the expectation of sending for them after he settled in. Soon after Jack sailed, Kaill's birth mother Blumke died from influenza. The Wopnick family sent Kaill to Jack's eldest sister, Ida and her husband, Joseph Chelm, who also lived in Poland. Joe and Ida Chelm subsequently had their own children, Kaill's beloved cousins, Claire in 1922, Sarah in 1923 and Irving in 1925. It was in 1930 that the Chelms and Kaill came to America, settling in the Bronx. Kaill's father Jack had settled in Cleveland and married Mollie Zelmonowicz. Jack drove to New York at that time and brought Kaill to Cleveland. Kaill wanted so much to be an American, that she disliked being called "Kayla", and wanted to be called Claire. Once in Cleveland, Claire became the eldest sister of five siblings, and enjoyed the birth of her beloved brother, Leonard Nyman, and her beloved sisters, Bernice "Sissy", Delores "Doody" and Elayne "Cookie". Sadly, Jack died on January 12th, 1942, at the age of 43. After graduating from East Tech High School, Claire went on to earn a Stenographer Certificate, and in 1943-1945, during WW II, she worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C. Reporting to work in her civilian War Department uniform, Claire was very proud of working for the war effort. After the war, Claire returned to Cleveland and worked as an examiner for the IRS on E. 9th St in the Erieview Tower until she retired in 1979. She lived with her Aunt Ida and Uncle Joe Chelm in the Thornton House in Shaker Heights, until they each passed away. Claire remained in the Thornton House, and lived independently, until shortly before her death. Claire traveled the world, loved politics, reading, and Israel. Claire always remembered her many siblings, cousins, friends, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews birthdays, anniversaries, and other days of special meaning with a card, and an uplifting note. Claire is survived by brother Leonard (Harriet) Nyman, of Wellington, FL, sisters Dolores (Irving, deceased) Caplan, of Delray Beach, FL, Elayne (Leonard) Yelsky of Moreland Hills, OH. She is predeceased by sister Bernice "Sissy" Welcheck, and her parents Jack and Mollie Nyman.
