
Karen Haiman Schenkel, age 81 passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026. Born on 12/16/1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. Karen was married to her junior high school sweetheart, Mickey for over 61 years. She was the daughter of Irwin and Jeanne (Jaffee) Haiman. She graduated from Shaker Heights High School and went on to graduate from Western Reserve University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.
Karen was a woman of immense grace, dedication and an incredible friend to many. She spent her life building community filled with laughter and fun, always prioritizing the happiness and well-being of those she held dear.
Karen began her professional career as a gym teacher at Shaw High School. Her true passion was her volunteer work for Mount Sinai Hospital of Cleveland where she served on the Board of Directors. She was president of both the auxiliary and the junior auxiliary board.
Karen was such a good friend to so many and always showed up for those around her. She loved to read and spend time in her favorite spot on the couch in the den. In her younger days, Karen loved to play golf at the Hawthorne Valley Country Club. Karen left an indelible mark on everyone she met and her quick wit brought light and happiness to the world.

Loving mother of Steven (Tully) Schenkel, Marc (Sonja Zandstra) Schenkel and Julie (Eric) Eschenbrenner.
Cherished grandmother of Charlotte Schenkel, Alina Schenkelzandstra, Nolan Schenkelzandstra, Samson Eschenbrenner and Coleman Eschenbrenner. Dear sister of Susan (Albert Bensoussan) Haiman.
Services will be held Friday, October 9 at 1:30 PM at the BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL 1985 S. Taylor Rd. Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118 Interment Lake View Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the residence 24296 Laureldale Rd Shaker Heights, Ohio 44122 FRIDAY FOLLOWING SERVICES AND INTERMENT UNTIL 6PM, SUNDAY 1PM-4PM & 6PM-8PM.
