Lester Ackerman, age 98, residing in Chagrin Falls, Ohio for 2 years after living in Rocky River for 60 years was born June 18, 1922 and passed away due to COVID-19 complications on January 26, 2021. After serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, Lester was partner/owner of Kays Floral Shoppe in Cleveland's West Park for almost 50 years.
A founding member of Beth Israel-West Temple, Lester was also a charter member and past president of the west Cleveland chapter of B'nai B'rith. Lester was a 50+ year member, and past-president of West Park Kiwanis, and delivered Meals on Wheels into his 90's. He loved to ice skate as a senior at Rocky River Ice Rink, and skated for Special Olympics every year. Most of all, he loved dancing regularly with his wife, Leona, at the N. Olmstead Party Center.
Beloved husband of Leona Ackerman (nee Brown); devoted father of Diane Goldring and Bryan (Jennifer) Ackerman of Galena, IL; loving grandfather of Alisa (Rod) Copeland, Jodi (Brian) Washburn and Sean (Sara) Deck; cherished great-grandfather of Abbey Washburn, Audrey and Abby Deck; dear brother of the following deceased: Jack Ackerman, Sarah Askowitz and Robert Ackerman. Lester was always there for everyone and will be missed but never forgotten by so many family and friends.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private burial services will be held at Bet Olam Cemetery (B'nai Jeshurun section) on January 28 at 1 PM, and the family will not receive friends at this time. A memorial will be scheduled later in the year when all can be together.
Contributions are suggested to Beth Israel-West Temple, West Park Kiwanis, or West Park Meals on Wheels.
