Madeline was born on July 26, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Ann and Jacob “Jack” Surkes. She graduated from Shaker Heights High School.
Over the years Madeline enjoyed traveling, be it by car across the country to purchase fashionable garments for their family business or cruising the seas in style. She was an avid mahjong player, loved knitting hundreds of beautiful items from sweaters to blankets, immersing herself in books and giving back to the community. She especially loved her extensive time volunteering at Menorah Park in the gift shop and cafe where she proudly served as President of the “Small Board” of volunteers.
Madeline is survived by her son, Dr. Ronald Goldstein and wife Lynne Kunkle, grandchildren Jeremy Goldstein and Erin Whipple, Brian and Robyn Goldstein, Brandon and Deborah Goldstein as well as her 5 great-grandchildren Emma, Austin, Molly, Lilly, and Jackson. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Myron Goldstein, parents Ann and Jack Surkes and daughter Pamela Goldstein Herskovits. She was a beloved Aunt to Dr. Marc and Jessica Gannon and Jackie Goldstein as well as dear friends Amy Neshkin, Wendy Lord and Joan Michael.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Mt. Sinai Jewish Cemetery at the intersection of White Road and Som Center Road on July 16 at 2PM with Cantor Barr officiating. Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel will be handling the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The American Cancer Society and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
May Madeline always be remembered, “with a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”
