Born in Pittsburgh in 1925 to Emanuel and Bertha Nurenberg, Marshall was raised in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood and attended Taylor Alderdice High School. During World War II, he served as a radar technician in the U.S. Navy. He briefly studied at Carnegie Institute of Technology before transferring to Cleveland College, ultimately earning his law degree from Western Reserve School of Law. Recognized as the top-ranked student, he was inducted into the Society of Benchers in 1953 and the Order of the Coif in 1954.
Marshall was recruited by the Dudnick Komito law firm, where he rose to become a partner and eventually the lead name of Nurenberg, Paris, Heller and McCarthy. Throughout his distinguished career, he passionately advocated for his clients, including cases before the Ohio and U.S. Supreme Courts, such as Gallick v. B&O Railroad. He was also a mentor to many young attorneys and a dedicated member of the legal community, honored as a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
