Born to Holocaust survivors Jack and Lili Markowitz, who preceded him in death, Marty carried with him the resilience and strength of his family's extraordinary history.
Marty proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In recognition of his honorable service, he was awarded three Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and earned distinction as a Rifle Expert. He took great pride in serving his country, and his military service remained an important part of his life's story.
For 51 wonderful years, Marty shared a loving and beautiful marriage with his wife, Ronna (West) Markowitz, who preceded him in death. Together they created a close-knit family that became the center of his world.
Marty is survived by his children, Julie (Todd) Felder, Andy (Kelly) Markowitz, and Richie (Karen) Markowitz; his cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Maddy Markowitz, Jack Felder, and Josh and Sarah Markowitz; his brothers, Harry (Susan) Markowitz and Alvie (Kathy) Markowitz; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was a devoted father, proud grandfather, dear brother, dearest uncle, great-uncle, and cousin to many.
Nothing brought Marty greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether celebrating milestones, gathering for holidays, or enjoying the simple moments together, his greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those he loved.
Later in life, Marty was fortunate to find companionship with his special friend, Joyce Lerman. Their friendship brought him happiness, laughter, and comfort.
His memory will live on through the family he adored and the countless lives he touched.
