We were lucky to Dr. Hack admit my son to the neo-natal intensive care unit on Feb. 15, 1975. He was three months early, and only 2 pounds.  Through her great knowledge and determination, he made it through his first night. After 91 days, we brought our baby home!  He is now 42 and as healthy as can be. How do you ever thank someone for saving a baby's life. There are no words. Thank you Dr. Hack for all lives you have saved.

I dint know about Maureen' s passing. I had a great privilege when she accepted our invitation to came from Porto Alegre . Brazil.
She was very important for my organiztion in 200o yeras when I organized our follow up orogram fir high risk prerm infants.
Only today ... I dont have words... Sorry!

I just found out of Dr Hack's passing this morning while trying to call her home. I had the privilege of working at her home. I would enjoy cleaning for her windows fans ect. Dr Hack would call me frequently to change the high light bulbs and fix things. I will miss her and her knowledge, I would ask her questions about my kids and she would be very humble an answering them and putting my mind to rest. I have been with her for over 25 yrs closer to 30. Please if you need anything please email rnicolli@aol.com. It saddens me, the world lost a wonderful person.

It is only today that we heard of the passing of Maureen. Both Pam and I have very fond memories of Maureen, starting with the period we spent together at the Sheba Medical Center (Tel Hashomer). Over the years we have kept occasional contact and usually saw her on her visits to Israel and once during a visit to Cleveland. Maureen was completely dedicated to her career and to advancing the study and treatment of very low-weight premature infants. Her passing is a sad loss. Our condolences to all the family.

Dr. Hack was someone I could always consult without trepidation, not so common for the truly great.  She taught with incomparable knowledge and an uncommon, welcoming spirit. Wherever I encountered her, in the hospital or at Severance Hall, or at a grocery, she had the same warm demeanor.  Though her death is a profound loss and sad for the present, the memory of her as such a full person, always kind and concerned for the welfare of others will be a treasure forever.  I extend my deepest condolences to her family.

Our condolences to Dr. Hack's family. Maureen was a phenomenal neonatologist, researcher, and an inspiration to those of us who had the pleasure to work with her.

I had the great privilege of training under Maureen and being there when she was honored for her outstanding achievements.  I miss her and hope that she rests in piece and that her family finds comfort in her memories.

I was sadden to hear of Maureen's death. She's in my memory forever. She was instrumental to my data collection in completing a research study for an undergraduate senior tutorial  -always supportive, thoughtful and thought-provoking. She will be sorely missed.

Truly a bright researcher and doctor.  She always asked the difficult questions.  She championed families.  It was a pleasure working with her, even if at times difficult.  We will miss her candor.

I had the privilege of being Maureen's friend and librarian at the Beachwood Library.  With wit, charm and intelligence she always added great insight into our monthly book discussions.  I will personally miss her very much.  May her memory be for a blessing.

As a fellow member of Kol HaLev, I will miss seeing and speaking with her at our services and programs.  She was always kind and thoughtful and helped our son find someone to shadow at Rainbow and Babies Hospital.  May her memory be for a blessing.

I had the distinct privilege to have worked with Maureen.  She was an incredible person. Her passion was with the fragile, high-risk infants, especially following their development, and trying to make the care in the hospital and thereafter, better so as to make their future bright, productive, and healthy. Her work is so pivotal and her love, outstanding.
We stand on the shoulders of those who went before us. We certainly stand on the shoulders of Dr. Maureen Hack.  I am proud to say I knew her. You will be missed, Maureen.

I will always remember Maureen with affection and admiration for her very fine work.

Maureen served as the "chavera gdola" -- big friend -- to my then-9-year-old son in a Hebrew language program called "Chaverim (friends) B'Telefon; once a week, she Skyped with him to practice Hebrew. I'm forever indebted to Maureen for her observations about Max, who is on the autism spectrum, and for one comment in particular, which she made early on in their acquaintance. As they Skyped and I stood nearby, ready to jump in if needed, Maureen suddenly said, with what I later recognized as characteristic directness, "Lila, stop hovering. You're interfering between me and Max." 

Maureen's comment was a revelation to me, not just in its local application (I WAS hovering, worried that Maureen would find it hard to connect to Max) but in a more global, developmental sense:  It was time for me to step back; Max no longer needed me to facilitate his every social interaction and in fact my intervention had the potential to undermine his growing competence and confidence. 

I think her message really resonated with me because of its very Maureen-ness: She delivered it succinctly, with the authority of someone who understood a great deal about child development, and yet also with a kindness and matter-of-factness that was devoid of judgment. Maureen had a gift for offering sharp insights with a forbearing neutrality which forestalled defensiveness and encouraged thoughtfulness, and I feel fortunate to have known her and have had the benefit of her insight. 

We'll miss you, Maureen.

My deepest sympathy to you all on the loss of Maureen. Maureen and I have been friends for many years first meeting on the tennis court. Our friendship extended to many discussions of the special education students that I worked with that were part of her program. I admired her brilliance and her warm kind nature.We had many many chats about her wonderful family and how proud she was of all your accomplishments. Her loss is a loss to all.
I will always miss her and always remember her.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Maureen Hack. She was a great scholar and pioneer in neonatal medicine and she will be greatly missed. May her soul rest in peace.

I am so honored to have had the privilege of knowing you, working with you and learning from you. Your determination and spirit made the world a better place for so many children and their families, through the hope you gave them. You will never be forgotten.

Dr Hack was a wonderful mentor, who could anticipate needs of a beginner researcher and discuss big projects with neonatology researchers worldwide. As a neonatology fellow, she could make me feel like she had all the time I needed. She had a sharp mind and quick wit. She will be missed by her colleagues and mentees.
