Michael Shapero

With profound sadness and eternal love, we announce the passing of our “Bopa” , “Mikey”, Michael Shapero. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 30, 1944 , Mike joined his parents in heaven at the age of 81 on July 28, 2025.

He is a deeply devoted father, fiercely loving husband, trusted friend, revered attorney, cherished uncle, and forever a legend to the countless people that had the privilege of crossing his path . Mike lived his life with authenticity, MASSIVE love, purpose, non-judgement, positivity and such deep joy that everyone, all walks of life , felt home and at peace in his presence. He married his cherished Barbara (nee Macknin), in 1981. Together they lovingly raised Jennifer (Jordan) Goldberg, Kim (Jeffrey) Gans and Allie Shapero. Doting grandfather of Mason, Dylan, Jackson and Leighton Goldberg, Beckett and Holden Gans, and Lennon Zeman. Dear brother of Sydell (Dr. Armin) Green and Myra (Stu) Herz.

It could be mere moments since he saw us, but the warmest eyes, biggest smile, and most exuberant embrace greeted us. Every. Single. Time. You’d swear it’d been years, not just a day or so. His love was so big and he never understood the sense in people keeping their love quiet.

Mike was a man of love, loyalty, wisdom and within everything carried the highest values of integrity. Mike, an invited member of the Mensa International Society, was a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Finance. He received his Juris Doctorate from Cleveland- Marshall College of Law in 1970. Bopa served as a Trustee on the Cleveland Bar Association, was a tireless advocate for the homeless, a member of countless committees ,and founder of Shapero & Green where his brilliance shined as an AV rated attorney for 52 years until his final chapter.

Our Mikey’s wisdom, humor, laugh, love of music, baseball, history, Monopoly, Scrabble, chess, law, gambling, county fairs, good Scotch and most of all, his family, will forever live on in us all.

While we are shattered that he is not earthside, we couldn’t be more blessed that his love and legacy were so powerful that we’ll always carry him in the best parts of ourselves. May we all love boldly and keep the music on in his honor.

Services will be held Friday, August 1st , 10:30 AM at the BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL 1985 S. Taylor Rd. ,Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Interment Bet Olam Cemetery.

Family will receive friends FOLLOWING SERVICES AND INTERMENT AT BEECHMONT COUNTRY CLUB 29600 CHAGRIN BLVD. , ORANGE ,OH UNTIL 4PM. SATURDAY THE FAMILY WILLL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT THE RESIDENCE OF JENNIFER AND JORDAN GOLDBERG 32420 Pinebrook Lane, Pepper Pike , Ohio 1PM-3PM & 5PM-7PM.

Friends who wish , may contribute to the American Cancer Society or any homeless shelter of their choice.
