Michael E. Temsey

Michael, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on August 4, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born on March 12, 1932, in Chicago Illinois, where Michael spent his early childhood before moving to Canton, Ohio, where he was raised. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict before attending Kent State University. After graduating with honors, he settled in the Cleveland area, beginning a life marked by service, integrity, and devotion to his family.

Michael began his career with the Social Security Administration, where he met Arlene. They shared nearly 58 years of marriage. He later spent the majority of his professional career with the National Labor Relations Board, where he was respected for his intelligence, fairness, and dedication.

Outside of work, Michael enjoyed a full and active life. Tennis was one of his greatest passions. He loved both playing and watching the game, continued playing until he was 89, and looked forward each summer to attending the Cincinnati Open. He also found great joy in the performing arts and was a devoted patron of the Broadway Series, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. A loyal Ohio State football fan and supporter of Cleveland sports teams, he enjoyed attending games as well as watching from home. He appreciated the Cleveland Museum of Art, kept up with current events, and could always be found reading the daily newspaper from front to back. He also often enjoyed walks to the local park.

Family gatherings often found Michael behind a camera or video recorder, quietly preserving milestones and everyday moments alike. Thanks to him, many of the family’s most cherished memories can still be revisited today.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Arlene Temsey; his daughters, Brenda Temsey (Dan Szubra) and Leigh Temsey (Ryan Stafford); and his brother, Philip Temsey (Joyce). He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Teddy, and cat, Harry, who brought him great companionship and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Temsey; his brother, Richard Temsey; and his sister, Joan Marsh.

Those who knew Michael will remember not only what he accomplished, but how he made people feel. He listened without judgment, encouraged without expecting recognition, and met life’s challenges with patience and grace. His quiet strength, gentle humor, and generous heart left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was, quite simply, one of the nicest people anyone could ever hope to meet.

Although his family will miss his steady presence more than words can express, they are deeply grateful for the example he set through a life of kindness, humility, and love. His influence will continue to be felt in the lives of all who knew him.

Services will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 S. Taylor Rd. Cleveland Heights.

The family will receive following services at the residence of Dan Szubra and Brenda Temsey 5334 Brentwood Court Highland Heights. From 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
