August 7, 1917 – November 21, 2020
Mildred Sommers Horvitz, 103, died on Nov. 21 in Beachwood, Ohio. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Richard Horvitz; mother of Judy Horvitz of Beachwood; sister of the late Edith (Allen) Gottlieb; aunt of Randy (Wendy) Gottlieb of Atlanta, Ga., and Gary Gottlieb (Debi Stephens) of Rome, Ga.
Born in Cleveland Aug. 7, 1917, to Benjamin and Sarah Sommers, she graduated from John Hayes High School and lived in Cleveland, University Heights and Beachwood. She was a member of The Temple-Tifereth Israel. She judged people not on their education but on their character. She knew how to be a true friend and acknowledged when she was wrong. She had an uncanny sense of knowing things, and her determination allowed her to live to 103. Beachwood Place was her second home. Cherished friends – Linda Angart, Frankie Henry, Mariel Lustig, Marcy Schwartz and Terrence Tuchscher – supported, comforted and were there for her.
Funeral arrangements will be private.
Donations in her memory to The Cleveland Sight Center or Montefiore.

Mom had such a sense of humor and an opinion about everything. She was smart and caring and remained interested in life and what was happening around her. I was so impressed by her. This is a terrible loss. Prayers and love to her family!

I remember in my youth all the great times I spent with my Aunt Millie at all the High holidays in Ohio. It was always a wonderful time with all the family gathered around including Judy, Aunt Millie's beautiful daughter.
I missed them all the time when we moved to Atlanta although my mother, Edie Gottlieb, talked to Aunt Millie on the phone every day. I'd get to say a quick hello to her. I'll miss her and always love her beautiful soul. Rest in Peace now until we meet again.
