Milt had a long and rewarding life. He was born and raised in Cleveland, OH where he helped support his family as a teenager by working part-time and in the summers. Milton proudly served his country in WWII by enlisting in the Army and was part of the historic 1945 Battle of Okinawa.
Following his time in the service, he received his B.S. from The Ohio State University. After a brief period of teaching, he attended dental school at Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve). He practiced general dentistry for 10 years in Maple Heights and, after attending the orthodontic program at Ohio State University, had a successful orthodontic practice in Shaker Heights for 20 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, golf and a friendly game of cards with his friends, a group with whom he played a weekly pinochle game for over 30 years.
Milton served as the President and an active member of the Greater Cleveland Dental Society and the Temple Emanuel (Cleveland) Men’s Club. After he retired, he was an active and valuable volunteer working with troubled youth in Cleveland and then, after moving to San Diego in the 1980s, in the probation department in San Diego.
Milton is survived by his wife, Norma Hirsch, his sons David Hirsch (Ann), Steven Hirsch (Peg) and Larry Hirsch (Dale), his stepson Jeff Pressman (Nancy), his grandchildren, Dana Hirsch, Nathan Hirsch (Claire), AJ Hirsch (Jess), Jacob Hirsch (Jess), Erin Hirsch, Bryan Hirsch, Mindy Pressman, Shelly Pressman (Dan) and his great-grandson, Ezra Hirsch. He was preceded by his first wife, Jane Fowler Hirsch, who died in 1978, his parents, Nathan and Frieda Hirsch, and his siblings, Ruth Hirsch, Zelda Kleinman and William Hirsch.
A funeral was held at graveside with his family. Contributions can be made to the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland Dental Society Foundation, the Elizabeth Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.
