Nancy Socoloff

Born in Cleveland on April 24, 1941, to Belle and Morris Boxerbaum (of blessed memory), Nancy’s greatest joy and hugest accomplishment was the delight she found in her role as the matriarch of her family.

She was the adoring wife of Sheldon (of blessed memory) for 58 wonderful years; an incredible mother to Beth Socoloff, Mindy Cannella, and Caryn and Leigh Weinberg; and a loyal sister to Ina Burday and H. Sue Stonefield (both of blessed memory). She was a dedicated grandmother to Jaime and Jason Nicholas, Alyssa Cannella, Alexandra and Ryan Miller, Genna and Tommy Schadl, Madison Cannella (Michael Kaminchak), and Samantha Young (Austin). She was also a special aunt to Curt and Darlene Burday, along with many others. Most importantly, she was an adoring great-grandmother to Sawyer and Spencer Nicholas and Sterling Schadl.

Nancy was an avid reader who loved playing Mahjongg and Canasta, especially her weekly games with cherished longtime friends, many of whom had raised their children alongside her. She had a wonderful green thumb, spent hours knitting blankets for anyone who asked, and loved being outdoors. She was happiest by the pool, relaxing at the beach, or most recently, sitting on her porch with a good book and her Boston Terrier at her feet.

Nancy’s life was defined by compassion, grace, and generosity. She leaves behind a family eternally thankful to have been showered with her love and forever grateful for the privilege of having loved her.

Funeral services will be held on August 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel in Cleveland Heights. Interment will follow at B’Nai Jeshurun- Chesterland Memorial Park in Chesterland.

The family will receive visitors following services at the residence of Caryn and Leigh Weinberg, 75 Meadowhill Lane, Moreland Hills, OH until 8:00 p.m.; on Wednesday, August 12, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m.; and on Thursday, August 13, from 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Contributions in Nancy’s memory may be made to Fieldstone Therapeutic Riding Center, Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School (Mandel JDS), or Women of Congregation Mishkan Or, all of which were organizations near and dear to her heart.
