Dear Family and Friends of Raye,

I work at Mt St Joseph, and Raye was my friend.  We spent a lot of quality time together, reading novels, talking to her about anything, sometimes eating Thanksgiving dinner together.  I used to tell her all you need is a good mind and a friend, and she agreed. I would hug her and say I loved her, and she would say "yes, I know you do."  When she was voted "Resident of the Month," they asked me to do her write-up.  I would like to share it now:

"Raye Liberman, affectionately known as Raye-Raye or Mama Raye, was born on December 14, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland to Danny and Jeanette Appel.  She had three siblings, who called her Sissy, so the name stuck throughout her childhood.  They had a loud, boisterous home.  
Raye's dad worked at a grocery store, in the fish and produce departments, and had a produce truck.  Her mom worked at a nearby drugstore.  Raye used to help her dad deliver the produce to their regular customers.  She also fondly remembers going with her whole family in the truck (sleeping on the shelves!!) to Atlantic City.  Later, after she was married, she went on another memorable trip, with her husband to New York City on business and had a wonderful time.  Her parents always tried to make sure their children were happy, even though they were poor.  Raye incorporated that philosophy, along with a love of God, with her own children.
She married her husband Harry, an electrical engineer.  They had two children, David and Paul, and their wiener dog, Rusty.  Raye enjoyed cooking and baking.  Family favorites were roast beef, chicken, and her many pies, apple, pumpkin, and her pudding pies, chocolate and butterscotch, of course all made from scratch.  She strived for a homey, loving family life.
Raye had a garden filled with carrots, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes; and flowers,  petunias, geraniums and roses.  In addition to being a housewife, she also worked at a supermarket, the Food Fair, as a cashier,  or at a nearby drugstore, OR in a bakery, where she not only sold the goodies but also did some baking there, too!
Raye loved taking care of people.  It made her happy, to make others happy.  She also liked to decorate, for everyone to enjoy; dance and sing, having once had a good voice.
Raye's favorite TV show is 'Judge Judy.'  In her younger years, she watched Milton Berle.  She's an avid reader having read practically every Danielle Steele book.  She laughs that she also read every fairy tale book in the library!  Her favorite color is light blue, and her favorite food is chocolate.
Raye is a wonderful person that everyone should get to know.  She loves company!  Stop in and say Hey to Raye!"

Paul and Dave,
Thank you for sharing your mother with me when I was a child. She was more than my child care provider--she was my mom away from home. I recall the great memories of your mom giving chicken soup to your little dachshund Rusty and saying how chicken soup cured everything. And it was her magic touch and positive energy that motivated me--and her unending love and belief in me that made me feel special. I loved all her stories and her love for her family, including Aunt Roz and her love for animals. Your mom is no doubt a special angel in heaven who is still watching over you. I am blessed to have known her and to have been welcomed by all of you in your home. I wish you only peace and support during this very difficult time.

Dave and Paul -- Please accept my condolences on the passing of your mom.  Just as Marlene S. mentioned I, too, remember attending your parents' wedding in Baltimore.  I also recall them visiting us in Toronto.  I think there was a heat wave at the time, which didn't agree much with Raye.  Our mothers used to correspond, and I remember her keeping my mom (your great  Aunt Leah) up to date on the Liberman family news in Cleveland.  Raye occasionally would include a photo, and report on the progress you boys were making as you grew up. I remember her fondly.

Dear Mom, 
 
During the year's growing up you & Dad made certain we had everything we needed to have a childhood we can reflect on fondly. Making sure both my brother Paul and I had an education in a good school system, proper medical care, lots of fun and above all, lots of love. From city pool passes - to backyard pools, from bicycle's - to mopeds, from gold fish - to a dog,  from High School - to College...you were the glue in the family that made things happen.that were necessary for all of us to live as a functional family.
 
The support you gave me at times during my career choices moving forward with my bodybuilding activities was also greatly appreciated.
 
No words can describe the appreciation I have for the special attention you gave me as a little boy of 4, - when you insisted the doctors didn't dismiss my constant infections as a "typical thing some boys get," to discovering that I had a life threatening situation where they ultimately had to remove my kidney. Your persistence and not excepting "expert" advice saved my life.The words "THANK YOU" hardly describe my feelings towards the appreciation I have for you.
 
The support you provided for your sister (our Aunt Roz - who was very much like a "second Mom" to me), through her grim diagnosis with terminal lung cancer, special in-home care, proper medicines, pain management and ultimate death was extremely admirable and a true example of the love and care you had in your heart. Words and actions are two different things and the actions provided during the worst of times, showed the type of person your truly were.
 
The support you provided our Father through his illness with MS among other health issues was a very difficult challenge as your own failing health became more apparent.
 
We realize during the later years our relationship was challenging and stressful for both of us. I only hope you knew that the core love I had for you never died...and it never will. Please rest in piece knowing that.

Dear Mom,

I want to Thank You for all the love you gave to me, my brother, my Father, and everyone that you met and had the chance to touch their lives. You have the gift of the spirit because of the way you loved people and had the incredible ability to forgive others. I thank you for the life you allowed me to live and your constant belief you had in  me for my dreams and aspirations. You were a very supportive mother and always wanted to see your children and husband happy. I would like to share a poem with you titled "God's Garden". Hello Everyone,
I want to thank everyone for their condolences and sympathy about my mother Raye M. Liberman who passed away February 12,2016. I appreciate some of the memories all of you shared about my mother that was very comforting. I would like to share with everyone a poem I found. The title is "God's Garden" God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Dave and Paul,
I am so very sorry for the passing of your dear mother.   It is always tough to lose somebody in our life, but God with give you strength during this time, as well as the days ahead.   God has His plan for each one of us.  Try to remember the positive memories that you shared together throughout her life.    And because of her, you each were born, and are able to live your own special journey here on earth.  Have peace in knowing that your mom is no longer suffering, is at peace,  and has reached her final destination in life.   She is in a wonderful place, and Heaven has gained another angel.   You will be together again one day.  I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and I am here if you need anything at all. Stay strong Dave and Paul, it will get easier.  Goodbye Raye, God bless you all.

   I was saddened to learn of the passing of my Aunt Raye.  I remember attending her wedding when she & Uncle Harry were married; I believe I was 7 years old.
   My memory bank pictures me, as a young girl, sleeping over their home several times when they lived in Baltimore.  Aunt Raye & I would listen to "records" of show tunes, & many times, sing along, too.  I truly had quality time with both my aunt and uncle, but more so with Aunt Raye, as Uncle Harry had to work.  Also, my family enjoyed many barbeques in their beautiful backyard.  I can still taste the BBQ sauce on the chicken!
   My aunt had a lot of difficulties in her life and I only hope now she can truly "rest in peace!"
   Bruce joins me in sending loving  thoughts and prayers to Paul & David during this difficult time.

Raye had a very challenging childhood which shaped her adult life.  She tried her best and always wanted the best for her husband and children.  She is at peace now.  I hope David and Paul find peace as well.  With much love, Vikki L.
