

A lifelong Clevelander, Richard graduated from University School in 1990. Richard was a four-year letterman in swimming and cross-country, as well as a captain on the cross-country team. In college, Richard was a division three, All-American swimmer at John Carroll University, where he received his degree in 1995.
Richard was an excellent chef, receiving his degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America. Richard served as the Executive Chef at Menorah Park for 10 years, where he was widely respected for his dedication, creativity, and passion for his work. Most recently, Richard founded his own consulting company, Farkas & Associates. He was a highly sought after dietary consultant in nursing and assisted living facilities. He brought a sense of joy and compassion to the residents through his love of cooking.
Richard had a profound love of the outdoors. He was happiest when he was on camping trips at various national parks or going on hikes with his best friend, Kingston, his beloved Bernedoodle. Music was an important part of his life and marriage, his favorites being The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd. Rachel and Richard were high school sweethearts who later reconnected and were married for over 12 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rachel Farkas (nee Sherman); his loving father, Dr. Joseph N. Farkas; his cherished stepchildren, Lindsay Cole, Olivia Cole, and Brady Cole; his brother, Dr. Butch Farkas (Lissa); and his brother-in-law, Bradley Sherman (Elisabeth) and nieces Joanna and Laura; his nephews, Tyler, Sam, and Jack. He is also lovingly remembered by many friends.
Richard was proceeded in death by his mother, Dr. Martha Farkas.
A private family graveside service will be held at Lake View Cemetery.
Family will be receiving friends at their home on Wednesday from 1-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Thursday, from 1-4 pm, and Friday from 12- 4 pm.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Funeral Home.
