Robert A. Mintz

January 25, 1947 – August 4, 2026

Robert Allen Mintz of Solon, Ohio, passed away on August 4, 2026. Husband of Diane (nee Rolf), father of Lowell (Jori), Jackie (James) and Ariel, and grandfather of Rosabelle, Malachi, and Madelyn.

Son of the late Marvin and Shirley Mintz.

Known as Bobby to those who knew him in his younger years, and as Bob to those who knew him professionally. He was Pop or Poppie to his kids, and Grandpa or Poppa to his grandchildren.

Bob graduated Shaker Heights High School in 1966, earned a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Cincinnati in 1970, and a Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve School of Law in 1974.

He attended Woodstock in 1969 and later volunteered for the US Army, transferring to the Army Reserve as the country was drawing down troops from Vietnam. He was trained as a tank driver, something he was deeply proud of, and you knew from the way he drove.

In 1974, Bob stepped into to save the family business, Mintz Construction Co., after his father Marvin narrowly survived, and was disabled by, a heart attack and stroke while Bob was still in Law School.

Bob and Diane were married in 1975.

Bob was President of Mintz Construction Co. until 1990.

During his early career, Bob developed or acquired several commercial properties and founded Mintz Management Co. He earned a NAIOP award for his redevelopment of a former tool and die shop into a suburban office building located in Solon.

Bob made sure he was always available while his children grew up. He was at all their games, performances and art shows. He was always there if one of his children needed advice or a ride. He made sure his kids were close and insisted on family dinners every Sunday, a tradition that continues.

Bob went to Moscow, Russia, shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union, in 1993, in an unsuccessful attempt to establish a state sanctioned lottery modeled after the Ohio lottery.

Bob Co-founded Titan Realty Group with son, Lowell, and Geoff Brouman in 2003, starting off as three guys in a basement with five buildings. His daughter, Jackie joined them in 2004.

Bob provided the startup capital and mentored Lowell, Geoff, and Jackie in real estate development, construction, and property management. Titan developed its first project in 2003. Bob retired from Titan in 2016 shortly after Titan acquired a 12-building portfolio of industrial buildings containing approximately 600,000 SF in Solon, OH. He said he could finally retire because the “young guns,” as he called them, were now better than he was.

In retirement, Bob spent the summer months in Solon to be near his family and winters with his beloved wife, Diane, in Phoenix, Arizona. When in Arizona, Bob and Diane enjoyed spending time with their friends, would go see Cleveland’s baseball team at spring training, and watched many Browns games with the Phoenix area Browns Backers club.

Bob thought of himself as a renaissance man of sorts. He was a lawyer, a builder, and a self-taught investor. An avid reader, he was known for reading as many as five books at a time. He was also an amateur military historian, focusing on World War II and the American Civil war, and was a member of the Cleveland Civil War Roundtable. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years.

Bob was also a life-long coin collector. As a child, he would go to the bank and get rolls of coins just to pick through them to look for coins for his collection. He would always “buy” change his kids had accumulated, counting and inventorying each coin and writing a check for the face value of all the change.

Bob also loved to travel. One summer during his college years he hitchhiked through Europe. Much like Clark Griswold, Bob made sure to take his family on many fun filled family vacations. Somehow almost every one of those vacations involved a stop at some Civil War battlefield.

Bob was charismatic and loved to tell stories. He remained close with several friends from high school, and had a lifelong friendship with Howard Chapman.

Bob and Diane celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in June.

Bob did it all. He recently said that he achieved all of his goals in life, for his family, in business, and his personal financial goals.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6th at 12:00 pm at the Berkowitz Kumin Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 S. Taylor Road, Cleveland Heights.

Interment will follow at Mayfield Cemetery, 2749 Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Bob and Diane Mintz from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday and Friday.
