Sally Sue Rosenfield (nee Lev), 98, died September 11, 2019. A Cleveland resident for over fifty years, she was cared for with love in the Willensky Residence at Montefiore for the last year and a half of her life. Born August 22, 1921, in Detroit (MI) to Phillip and Ida Lev (nee Stein). Sally graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in physics and mathematics. In her early career she was a mathematician at Chrysler Engineering; in the ensuing three decades Sally earned a Masters degree in Education from John Carroll University and became a beloved math teacher at Shaw High School. She was a long-standing member of The Temple-Tifereth Israel.
In retirement, Sally and late husband Sylvan Rosenfield (her sweetheart of over 65 years) traveled the world—entertaining, playing bridge, cooking and gardening, fishing, and enjoying golf and tennis. They were quite a pair on the dance floor as well!
Sally is survived by her children, Nancy Sogg (Wilton, deceased) and Carol Weiss (Dr. Michael), many caring nieces and nephews, adoring grandchildren (Evan Walsh, Jenna Bastian [Will], Dr. Allison Optican [Adam], Dr. Leah Weiss, and Emily Weiss), and to her deep joy, great-grandson Ariel Optican. She was preceded in death by her dear brother Robert Lev and treasured daughter Dr. Eleanor Rosenfield.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 15th at 11 a.m. at Mayfield Cemetery. Family will receive visitors following services until 5 p.m. at 1834 Epping Road, Gates Mills, Ohio 44040. Contributions in Sally’s memory can be made to The Temple-Tifereth Israel or the Montefiore Foundation.
