

On December 22, 1931, Simon was born in Melitopol Ukraine. When World War 11 started, Simon was 9. His family was able to escape the Nazi occupation by leaving eastward. He lost his parents early in life and was raised by his uncle. After the war, Simon served in the Air Force until there was an accident. He was honorably discharged after the accident. He moved to Makeevka where he met and married his wife, Milya in April of 1957. Back in Ukraine, he was a band conductor and loved playing his trumpet and listening to music throughout his life. They had two boys, Lev and Alex. Simon worked as a designer shoe maker all of his life. In 1996, Simon and his wife, Milya came to America. He learned English, became a US citizen and helped to take care of his grandchildren. He loved his four grandchildren and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Simon also loved to drive his car ard took great pride in taking care of it. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a great father, a caring grandfather, and a loyal friend. Simon is survived by his wife, Milya, his younger brother, Roman, his two sons, Lev, Alex and their families, four grandchildren, Elena, Zhenya, Anna, and Jesse and two great-grandchildren, Gal and Noa. Services will be held Tuesday February 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Sinai cemetery, SOM Center Road and White road. Contributions are suggested to a charity of choice.
