

She was born on April 15, 1942, in Stalingrad, Russia, to her late father, Khahaan Shapiro. During her early childhood, her family lived in Uzbekistan before settling in Korosten, Ukraine. It was there that she grew into the dedicated and respected dentist she would become—serving her community with exceptional skill, deep compassion, and steadfast commitment. After completing her dental education, she moved to Kiev, Ukraine, where she continued her professional journey.
In 1998, Sofa immigrated to the United States, embracing a new chapter with resilience and hope. She built a life rooted in family, kindness, and quiet strength. Those who knew her remember her positive spirit, her gentle heart, and the strong will that carried her through life’s challenges. She touched countless lives with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones.
Sofa was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Semon Zakon, and her brothers, Boris Shapiro and Mikhail Shapiro.
She is survived by her children, Aleksandr Zakon and Larisa Krivoborodova; and by her cherished grandchildren, including Konstantin Krivoborodov “Candace.” Her legacy of love, strength, and compassion lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel.
Internment will follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery.
