She started as a secretary at Color-Mail and over the span of 40 years, she became President before the company was sold to a larger firm. She retired in 2000.
Enjoying her long professional career, Sondra’s retirement at the turn of the century meant more time to give back to causes she cared about. While she was still community minded during her employment, she lent her talents to organizations like the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Music and Drama Club of Cleveland, the American Cancer Society and the women’s group at Pine Ridge Country Club Golf Course.
As a breast cancer survivor, for many years she had a hotline for women to call as she offered hope and support to others facing similar challenges for the Reach to Recovery Program. This is what led to her involvement at the Gathering Place fitting wigs for cancer patients facing the same challenges as she did.
An animal lover, she generously contributed to organizations supporting pets and cared deeply for her feline friends.
Throughout her life, she was known for her compassion and her commitment to helping others. She attended weekly meetings of Gam-Anon supporting people.
Sondra will be dearly missed by her daughters, Melissa (Craig) Alexander, Mary Lee (Gary) Daniel, and son Michael (Debbie) Newman as well as grandchildren, Natalie Alexander, Chelsea (Rick) DiCarlo, great grandson, Michael DiCarlo, and sister, Bonnie Alexander. She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin and brother-in-law, Ralph.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 15th, at 10:00 AM at Whitehaven Memorial Park, located at 615 SOM Center Road, Mayfield Village, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Gathering Place: https://touchedbycancer.org
Sondra’s legacy of kindness, strength, and service will be deeply missed.
