

Born June 10, 1931 in New Kensington, PA., son of Dr. Lee Ockner and Sara Elinor Weis. A graduate of Los Angeles High School, he attended Pomona College where he was a member of Sigma Tau Fraternity and GHOSTS.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Class of 1955, he was a member of Phi Delta Epsilon Fraternity and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. His internship was served at Philadelphia General Hospital (Blockley) and his residency in Internal Medicine at University of California, San Francisco.
Following his training he was assigned to Lockbourne Air Force Base (Strategic Air Command), and then to RAF Burderop Park and RAF Lakenheath (Tactical Air Command). His subspecialty training was at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital following which he served his last duty station at Scott Air Force Base (Military Airlift Command). Tours of duty included Chief of Medicine, Vice-President of the Society of Air Force Internists, and planning the medical care for returning Viet Nam War POWs. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Legion of Merit.
In 1975, he began his career at the Cleveland Clinic Department of Internal Medicine in which he served as Chairman of the Department of General Internal Medicine, Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and Chairman of the Geriatric Task Force. He retired from the Cleveland Clinic in 1999. For many years, he served as Boy Scout Troop Committee Chairman in Shaker Heights. He was the international tour physician for the Cleveland Orchestra for 15 years.
Survived by his cherished wife of 56 years, Paula Seltzer Ockner, his beloved children Dr. Lee (Rebecca) Ockner of Bloomfield Township, MI, Dr. Samuel Aaron Ockner of Chesterfield, MO, Benjamin Joseph (Hynda) Ockner of Shaker Hts., OH and Dr. Daniel Matthew (Karen) Ockner of Bloomfield Hills, MI, his adored grandchildren Max, Noah Jamie, Rachel, Claire, Charles and Jacob, his dearest brother Dr. Robert K. (Elaine) Ockner of Laguna Niguel, CA, and his treasured nephews Dr. James Lee Ockner (Gillian) of Bend, OR, Matthew Ockner (Cassie) of Tiburon, CA and Peter Ockner (Jennifer) of Tiburon, CA.
Services will be held at BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1985 S. TAYLOR RD., CLEVELAND HTS., Thursday, April 19 at 11 A.M. Interment Mt. Olive Cemetery (Jewish War Veterans section).
The family will receive friends at the residence of Benjamin and Hynda Ockner, 24139 Duffield Rd., Beachwood THURSDAY FOLLOWING INTERMENT UNTIL 7 P.M. AND FRIDAY FROM 1 TO 5 P.M.
