Missing you and wishing you were still here. Grateful to have had many years of your friendship and to have been able to celebrate  major life occasions with your family. Thinking of Deb especially today and this time of the year.

Thinking about you a lot right now. A year is supposed to be a marker in the journey but it’s really just another day. I’m sure you’ll find your way just as I have.  Just focus on those kids and be kind to yourself!  I’m always available to chat.

WE ARE SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT STEVE'S PASSING.  WE WERE TAX CLIENT'S OF HIS FOR OVER 25 YEARS.  HE WAS A WONDERFUL MAN WHO ASSISTED US EACH YEAR AND SHARED MANY GREAT OSU AND OHIO STORIES WITH US.  WE ARE PAST CLEVELAND RESIDENTS WHO MOVED EAST IN THE 90'S, BUT STAYED WITH STEVE FOR OUR ACCOUNTING WORK THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.  HE WAS A VERY SPECIAL MAN WHO  TREATED US AS FRIENDS AS WELL AS CLIENTS.  HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

To the Hartstein family, I remember Steve as a sweet and kind person that I attended Beachwood High School with, and possibly Agnon, as I remember Phyllis as a wonderful teacher there (we all called the teachers by their first names at Agnon).  My very, very sincere condolences to the family on your loss.

There are so many wonderful memories growing up with Steve in Beachwood.  Hearing Andrew’s beautiful words brought me back to high school where Steve lamented he could be a major leaguer – if only he was left-handed.  Even as a teenager, Steve would always do what was right, not easy.  May his memory be a blessing.

Joining like so many others have said, I know Steve as far back in South Euclid attending Rowland Elementary. Steve is a Mensch as many have said.   I have special memories of sitting through many soccer games with Steve and my dad, and even though my dad was a grandpa there, Steve always gave him jabs about rooting for the Steelers!  May his memory forever be for a blessing, most sincere to condolences to Debbie, Gaby and Andrew and the entire family. 

I am so sad to hear about Steve's passing. He was my best childhood friend at Taylor Road Synagogue, where we both attended Hebrew School. We shared many great times together from elementary school age through our high school years! I offer my sincerest condolences to the Hartstein family. May Steve's memory be a blessing...

When I interviewed to direct the Ohio State Hillel in 1986 Steve played a significant role as a student member of the search committee.  He started advising and guiding me even before I arrived in Columbus.  He was our student gabbai, and he took his role very seriously.  When we needed a last minute Shaliach Tzibbur for Yamim Noraim we ended up with Steve’s uncle Yossel.  Steve was so excited for John to come to Ohio State.  He explained that John needed a lot of growing up and he drafted me to assist him in teaching John the “right” way to do things.  As I think about those years I am remembering so much of our lives together in those years.  I can only hope I had a tenth of the impact on John’s life that he (and his family) have had on me.  My condolences to Bill, Debbie, Andrew , Gabrielle, John (and Agi), and the entire Hartstein clan.  May his memory be a Bracha.

It's hard to believe it's been more than 40 years, but I first met Steve when I made my way to OSU Hillel as a college Freshman.  With his signature warmth and his larger than life way about him, Steve welcomed me and immediately made me feel at home.  Because of him and others who were part of Hillel during those long ago days, Hillel became my home away from home and significantly contributed to who I am until this day.  Steve was two years my senior, but I'm fairly certain I remember attending one or two DPhiE parties/socials with him.  I'm sure you don't remember me from those days long ago, but I deeply remember the love Steve had for you ... his college sweetheart.  I also remember sharing the Yamim Noraim with Steve, Jon, and their uncle (the chazzen) at Hillel.  Those were very special days.  How wonderful it would be if we could visit those days again.  I will always have deep affection for Steve and gratitude for having fallen into his orbit.  He will be missed.  David Frankel (OSU/Hillel, Class of '90)

I am so saddened to hear about Steve. I literally knew Steve my entire life - having lived across the street from the Hartsteins on Hinsdale as a kid. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve Steve, his brother Jon and the rest of the neighborhood kids - playing street football 'telephone pole to telephone pole', sock baseball, and basically living at Bexley Park. We shared a 'wonder years' early childhood! And my most unique memory - teaching Steve how to put on his baseball stirrup socks prior to the South Euclid Boys Baseball parade! 

Assuming that I have identified the right person, I recall Steven from OSU back in the '80's -- wonderful personality - pleasant, easy-to-get-along-with, not overbearing.  He was active at the Hillel Foundation, where we met.  It is unfortunate that he passed away at such a young age.

Our deepest sympathies to the family of Steve Hartstein.  Steve was a staple for many years in the Beachwood Men's Softball League.
We sincerely hope that your fondest memories of Steve will be a blessing and help to sustain all of you now, in this most difficult time, and for all times.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know it's been a very hard (what an understatement) several years for the whole family, but I was so hopeful that Steve would beat this disease and turn things around. He has been in my prayers every day for a very long time and you will continue to be in my prayers every day as well. I am glad for him that he is at peace and watching over all of you until you are reunited again one day. I will find some old photos of times spent together and send them to you.
