I was shocked and saddened to hear that my old friend, Tony Sahley, had passed. Tony and I were classmates at Bowling Green State University where we were in graduate programs in Psychology. We remained in touch over the years and I was fortunate to have seen him and shared memories when I was back in Ohio in 2023.

My deepest condolences to Jill, his wife, and his other family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

Tony is a valued colleague, collaborator and, more importantly, a good friend whom I have known and worked closely with for over 20 years. We have collaborated on research, he was a member of dissertation committees of several of my students and we labored together on one of the most time-consuming college committees, the college Peer Review Committee, which we served on together for multiple terms. We, along with other faculty colleagues, including Mike Hammonds, have worked on two massive review papers in the neurosciences, one published, one which we will complete in the future. Tony was passionate about research and scholarship, feeling that was the main pursuit of being faculty.  He was continually pushing us to publish, whether through his writing of the review articles or getting our data analyzed and imploring “let’s move on getting it published”! 
Through my interactions with Tony, I got to know his personality well. He was in touch with me often on a weekly basis. If there was something he was waiting for me to do he would call me to see how I was doing on it. His phone calls were not short and sometimes I would see the number and say “Oh, I don’t have the time to talk to Tony now!”. If an email about the eFAAR (faculty annual report of activities) came out that day, due in a month, he would be on the phone asking me, a last-minute guy, if I was going to work on it! In working in his office on papers we would get in personal matters, talking about politics and religion, over popcorn, diet Dr. Pepper or coffee. We had the commonality of both being cat lovers. He had a picture of Joan in his office and would talk so appreciative of her being so patient, so calming, to his reactive nature. He would say she was a saint to put up with him.  Joan was really the love of his life!
I will greatly miss my friend Tony Sahley. He passed away way too soon.

My wife and I were saddened and somewhat shocked to hear of the passing of Tony at the young age of 71. I got to know Tony when I was chairperson of the former Speech and Hearing Department at Cleveland State. Tony taught the audiology courses and was very popular with students. He was an active contributor to the literature in tinnitus and he only published in the highest quality journals. He also co-authored several books with other experts in the field. He shall be missed by all who knew him. And, of course, I will miss his friendship as well. May his memory be a blessing.

Dr. Tony Sahley has been a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) at Cleveland State University (CSU) since 1995, also serving as IACUC chair from 2001 to 2010. Tony has made enormous and exceptional contributions to the work of the committee, assuring highest standards of the animal protocol’s review and well-being of our research animals at CSU. 

He was always enthusiastic and never reluctant to share his opinion about the welfare and safety of our research animals. His critical and thoughtful opinions about the procedural details of the activities of our animal research facility were crucial and pivotal to adopting the best policy, ensuring a high standard of the welfare of our animals. We are shocked by the sudden and untimely demise of our dear colleague Dr. Tony Sahley. 

Tony will be missed, and the void created by his sudden absence will be felt. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family in this time of grieving.
