It's been a little over a year since you left me Skippy. Me and the boys miss you. I went to your grave yesterday and brought you flowers. I dreamed of you last night. I think of you every day. Your sister is sick now and I pray for her too. It was an honor to take care of you and be with you share the last 12 years of your life. I know you are still watching over me, and with me. The championship game could not have been better orchestrated without you. I knew you were reminding me of our first date and sending a message to Rollin about his Duck's. What can I say? I miss you, I love you, save me a spot. I'll be there when the Lord calls me.

I was lucky to be a part of his life growing up on west 100.  The best athlete I played with and against.  Tried to get him to go to ignatius but frank won out and he enrolled at holy name.  I always imagine him and dowling together.  August 1961 he left our front porch committed but not to be.  How fortunate for tech.   I always regretted losing track of skip after high school.  But I will never forget our friendship at Almira.  Bob Lungo is probably coaching him now.  In 1961 the best five basketball players in area had a game against five grade school players.  All five of the older players started as varsity basketball players.  Skip in that game at 14 scored 48.  Amazing.  Better than argento and billy Hahn.  Thanks for the memories.

My condolences to your family.  I enjoyed football games at Tech. You probably new my husband Terry Twitchell from 88th and Almira.  Rest in peace.

Sorry to hear about Skip's passing.  My deepest sympathy to his family.  I played on the West Tech football team in the early 60's with Skip.  He was an awesome fullback, but that's not what I remember most about him.  He was always in a good mood back then and you could always count on him to make you laugh even when we were losing.  One of the most liked guys on the team because he was there for everyone.  Skip, you are in my prayers!

Skip Katona was one of the all-time greats at legendary West Tech High School and Saint Ignatius of Antioch. I will always be proud to say that I had the opportunity to play on the same grade-school field with Skip. Skip and Frank Solich were my boyhood heroes. May God Bless the Katona Family.
