Delbert Massey, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3. He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine Massey; loving father of Maggie and the late Debbie Massey; cherished grandfather of Cheyenne Heckerman (Avery), Chance Schill, and the late Delbert Schill; and proud great-grandfather of Cherokee Heckerman and Rayne Heckerman. He was also a dear brother to Shirley, Barbra, Danny, Richard, Roy Jr., Sharon, and Eugene (Janet), and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Del was born in Naoma, West Virginia, and dedicated many years of hard work to LTV Steel before retiring. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially playing catch with his grandchildren. A lifelong sports fan, he loved both playing and watching the games he enjoyed.
Del was also known for bringing people together through food. His holiday meals—especially his famous sweet potatoes—became treasured family traditions that will be remembered for years to come. Music was another passion in his life. Whether singing in church, performing, or simply sharing songs with others, he found joy in bringing smiles to those around him.
Above all, Del will be remembered as an honorable, kind, and loving man whose warmth touched everyone who knew him. His unconditional love, generous heart, and gentle spirit leave behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
All services will be private.
