We four Ruffing siblings knew Elinor originally in Cleveland in the 1960s (then, "Miss Serbu," of course). And lucky John -- Elinor was his godmother. She made each of us as children feel cherished, giving her full attention to every conversation and asking us questions no one else thought to ask. Elinor bestowed beautifully considered gifts, in tune with each child's interests, and had a knack for fostering our growth with each gift. Therese, for example, treasures a framed print of a young dancer, and small, melodious brass bells knotted into a satin cord. In recent years, Elinor freely shared with us her memories of our parents, Mary and Jim, and when Ceal's son Gabe was young, Elinor sent him egg designs at Easter. She was calming and kind. We'll miss Elinor and relish our memories of her. Therese, Cecilia, Catherine, and John

R.I.P Elinor. I'll miss your childhood Romanian stories and your concern for the Romainian children at Juvenile Court and Family Services, but most of all I'll miss your kindness.
