Gennie Elizabeth Wallace
On January 27, 1944, in New Albany Mississippi, God blessed Reverend Arthur James and Mildred Gennie Bell with a beautiful daughter, Gennie Elizabeth, the sixth of ten children. In 1954, the family moved to Carbon Hill, Alabama, where Gennie’s life would forever change when she met the love of her life, Jimmy Lee Wallace. Their love story blossomed, and shortly after graduating from Dunbar High School, they were united in Marriage on June 4, 1962. Together they shared 46 wonderful years of love, devotion, and partnership until Jimmy’s passing. From their union came four beloved children: Jimmy II, Shanina, Craig, and Lisa.
At an early age, Gennie accepted Christ as her Savior and carried her faith with her throughout her life. In 1965, she found her church home at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the Deaconess Board and in the Music Ministry. Her dedication to God and her church family was unwavering, and she loved serving others with kindness and humility.
Gennie was a woman of many gifts and a heart full of love. She found joy in cooking delicious meals and opening her home to family, friends, and church members-especially after Sunday service, when the Saints knew they could always count on a warm meal and loving fellowship. She also loved sewing dresses for her daughters and was known as a successful hair stylist for many years until her health began to decline. And if there was one thing Gennie truly enjoyed, it was shopping every chance she could get.
Above all Gennie treasured her family. Her love was strong, nurturing, and unconditional, and she leaves behind countless memories that will forever be cherished.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jimmy Wallace Sr; her sons, Jimmy Wallace II and Craig Wallace; her daughter Shanina Anderson; and her beloved grandson Terrell Allums II.
Though our hearts are heavy, we thank God for the life and legacy of Gennie Wallace. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter, Lisa Crews; granddaughter, Tawauna Knight (Christopher); grandsons, D’Angelo and Samuel Register; nephew/son Walter Wallace; nephew/son David Shorter; niece/daughter Denise Shorter; goddaughters, Michelle Thomas, Ayana Thomas, and Sherry Tyree; along with a host of great-grandchildren, family members, and dear friends.
