1970 – 2026
Hazel Sue Clegatt, 55, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and passed away on July 3, 2026. She lived a life defined by resilience, warmth, and an unshakable devotion to her family.
Hazel was social by nature; she had a way of getting along with everyone and was never afraid to speak her mind. She had a way of getting along with everyone and was never afraid to speak her mind. Those who knew her felt her honesty and her spirit. She was tenacious in everything she did; whatever needed to be done, she found a way to do it, and that strength defined her.
A loving mother, Hazel made certain her family was always cared for with the utmost devotion. She gave up much of what she might have kept for herself: schooling, opportunities, savings; putting her children first without hesitation. Her sacrifices were quiet and constant, and they shaped the selfless and powerful woman she was.
Hazel built a career in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant, dedicating herself to caring for others. Later in life, she returned to school at Cleveland State University to pursue business courses, proving that her drive to grow never left her.
She was a woman of faith, a Christian whose beliefs were part of who she was. She loved music of every kind and found real joy in live performances, including seeing B.B. King and George Clinton in Cleveland. She loved long walks to clear her mind, often covering miles across the city in a single day. She had a gift for journaling, filling pages in beautiful, near-calligraphic handwriting. Hers was a life filled with small, genuine joys.
Hazel spent many years in Buffalo, New York, before returning to her hometown of Cleveland in her final years. She was preceded in death by her parents John J. Clegatt and Price Ann Clegatt. She is survived by her sister, Nina Clegatt; her two sons, Joshua and Diamond Clegatt; and her grandson, Levi Clegatt.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her legacy lives on in those who carry her memory.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
