Herman Phoenix Thomas-Bey

A visitation for Herman will be held Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cummings & Davis Funeral Home, 13201 Euclid Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio 44112. A wake will occur Friday, April 1, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM, 13201 Euclid Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio 44112. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 13201 Euclid Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio 44112. A burial will occur Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 5505 Northfield Road, Bedford Heights, Ohio.

Herman Phoenix Thomas Bey was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Marian Phoenix on April 7, 1943. Herman had three sisters Juanita Montgomery (Deceased), Marian Thomas Mitchell (Deceased), Letha "Pumpkin" Thomas Shepherd.

Herman was married to Mary Robinson from this union Mary Mintz and Herman Thomas Jr. were born. He was then blessed to parent and care for three daughters; Roberta "Juadine" George, Shawanna Kennedy, Angela Thomas, through a relationship he shared with Christine Owens. In the mid 70s, he met Alice Wilson whom he shared a 45 year union with until she proceeded him in death. This relationship created a blended family that consisted of his six beautiful step-children; Donna Wilson (Deceased), Michael Wilson, Verona Wilson (deceased), Cheryl Jacobs, Lisa Spencer, and Bernadette Wilson-Robinson.

Herman's early education was provided by the Cleveland Public School system. Afterwards, he embarked on a journey as a self-educated seeker of knowledge and a lifelong learner of many things. He also pursued an in-depth exploration of many different religious. Through those studies, he was introduced to and fully embraced the Moor faith. He made it his life's mission to share his knowledge and findings with everyone he encountered. Along with his more scholarly pursuits, Herman maintained several other occupations including painting, construction work, and a passion for cooking. He was also taken with a few recreational hobbies that included photography, recording videos, and playing cards, but most of all, he LOVED listening to music.

Herman Thomas Bey departed this life on March 23, 2022. Leaving to cherish his memory are his sister Letha Thomas Shepherd (Phillip) and his uncle Eugene "Jr." Phoenix. His children: Mary Mintz (Calvin), Herman Thomas Jr. (Vanessa), Roberta George, Shawanna Kennedy (LaBraun), Angela Thomas, Michael Wilson (Every), Cheryl Jacobs (Tracy), Lisa Spencer, Bernadette Wilson-Robinson (Leron). Also leaving to celebrate his life and memory are a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, cousins and friends.
