Green County, Alabama. She was educated in the Kentucky School System.
At an early age, Irene accepted Christ and committed to faithful service.
Her walk of faith began and was nurtured at Love Divine Missionary
Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Johnson, Pastor Ware, Pastor
Willie A. Killings, and Pastor Cecil Moore. Irene served as the church clerk,
Sunday school teacher and was President of the Nurse's Guild. She also
served in the Liberty District. In the last few years of her life, she joined her
daughters at Second Ebenezer Baptist Church where she became a member
under the leadership of Pastor Dr. A.L. Owens and Bishop B.L. Owens, Sr.
Irene served on the Mother’s Board there.
Irene joined in Holy Matrimony to Thomas Belton on June 15, 1955. Three
daughters were born to this union, Wanda (deceased), Tina, and Donna.
In her free time, Irene attended the Rose Center, where Tracy and Kathleen
spoiled her. They loved to play "dominos" and she was named "Queen" of
dominos. She called them her extended family and she had some special
friends, Ariel, Hattie, Sadie, and Tommy, in which she had a “special” bond.
Irene enjoyed shopping, worshiping God and reading her bible all the time.
Every day she got up, whether she was going anywhere or not, she got
dressed up in her clothes and jewelry.
Irene went home to be with the Lord on December 5, 2019. She was
preceded in death by her husband Tom; parents Priscilla and Levester;
daughter Wanda; grandson Durrell; two sisters Geraldine Toney and
Audrey Williams; three brothers Otis Perry, Jerry Foster, and Joseph Foster.
She leaves to cherish in her memory, two daughters Tina (Ray) and Donna;
four grandchildren, Melia (Stan), Melissa (Eric), Alan and Raymon;
10 great-children; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister Priscilla Stroud, 2
brothers Sterling and Al (Pat); and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was the BEST Mom, friend we could ever have and we are going to
miss her dearly!
