

Irene Marie Hapiak, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, profound kindness, and an enduring gentle spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Irene was the oldest of two children born to the late Michael and Mary Marek. Through her church and family community, she met her husband Bill (Wassilij) Hapiak (who preceded her in death) and together they raised four children. Irene was an adoring, selfless, and nurturing mother. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into caring for them. She is the beloved mother of Michael Hapiak (Debbie), Vera M. Hapiak, Jeff Hapiak, and the late Dan Hapiak. She was also preceded in death by her loving brother, Robert (Bob) Marek. She remains a dearest aunt, cousin, and trusted friend to many.
Irene enjoyed a fulfilling 43-year career with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Cleveland where she made many lifelong friends. In her free time, she was an avid reader and loved music, Cleveland sports, bingo, and quality time surrounded by her family.
Most of all, Irene was known for her unending kindness and gentle spirit. Irene will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
In celebration of her life, relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at 10:00 am, Friday 10/16/2026 at St. Rocco's Parish (3205 Fulton Rd., Cleveland, OH 44109) followed by interment at the Brooklyn Heights Cemetery (4700 Broadview Rd., Cleveland, OH 44109).
