Jane Elizabeth Chapman, a beloved mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend, died suddenly on October 7, 2025, in Lakewood, Ohio. Jane lived fast, worked hard, and loved deeply. She was smart, incredibly funny, confident, and beautiful with radiant green eyes. Known for her quick wit and fierce spirit, Jane was always a leader and level-headed in crises. She was fearless. Jane spent her early years in Willoughby, Ohio. She attended Willoughby South High School and worked for many years as a fire and theft investigator with Progressive. She was close with many of her coworkers. For years, Jane played in local volleyball leagues with friends. She loved cats, music, tattoos, the west side of Cleveland, and cleaning. She was a great builder and could put anything together without instruction. Jane loved all seasons but especially summertime. Her happy place was Lake Erie. She soaked up the sun with family and friends and was thrilled to have a baby girl who shared her love of the beach. Connection meant everything to Jane; she was close with her family and had numerous friends, from all walks of life. She created many friendships and support throughout recovery and in the Cleveland AA community that brought her laughter, compassion, and comfort even in troubling times. Jane was always willing to do anything she could for the people she loved. Being a mother was her greatest achievement. Her beautiful daughter Harlow will always know Jane’s profound love for her. Jane is survived by her loving family: mother Stephanie, father George, sister Zoe (Scherer), daughter Harlow Rae, grandmothers Karen and Eleanor, grandfather Dennis, and countless aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, cousins, and dear friends. She is reunited with her Grandpa Chapman who died October 6, 2021. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held Saturday, October 25 at the Lakewood Park Kiwanis Pavilion from 2:00PM - 6:00PM. Guests will be invited to share memories and stories. Dress warmly! If you wish to honor Jane’s life, please consider a contribution to Stella Maris Cleveland, Jean Marie House, or the Edna House for Women. When you see the blue skies and bright sunshine of a summer day, hold Jane close in your mind and your spirit.
