Father Jerome had become the vocation director in the summer of 1976 when I entered the Order of Our Lady of Mercy. I remember being nervous upon meeting him and soon became at ease while we talked about vocations and religious life. He was a good priest and friend to many. As he got older he mellowed and yet he could make you laugh and cry at the same time. He had a great love for the priesthood, religious life, the Most Holy Eucharist, and Our Lady of Mercy.

Though I was only with the Mercedarians four years they have always been an integral part of my life. Growing up in St.Rocco Parish, until I was 18 years old I thought that all priests were Mercedarians because they were the only priest I had ever known until that time.

Rest now in peace Fr. Jerome and may the angels lead you into paradise. may your soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

'We have loved him in life, let us not forget him in death." - St. Augustine

"So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. " (2 Peter 1:19)

Of all the visits that Father Jerome and I shared over the last few years, the most memorable one is when he celebrated Holy Mass in his room at Bay Village for his recently deceased sister, Patricia. It was touchingly prayerful and a privilege to witness.

Rest in peace, Father Jerome!

My prayers and sympathy to the Mercedarian family on the passing of Fr. Jerome. He had a way about him that always made me feel better when I talked to him and he always gave me good advice. I'll miss him at the Instant Bingo stand at the OLMC Festival this year. RIP Fr. Jerome
