Cherished wife, mother, and grandmother Margie O’Brien, 73, returned home to be with God in the early morning hours of November 30th. She is survived by her husband, Thomas O’Brien; her five children, Scott O’Brien, Todd O’Brien, Bridget Horvath (O’Brien), Heather Bailey (O’Brien), Kelly O’Brien, and her sisters, Ann Joseph, Molly Sposato, Kathy DiProspero, and Jane Daulton. Margie is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Orcutt (Dee).
Margie graduated from Bradford Central Christian High School in 1965. She went on to Mansfield University of Pennsylvania where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.
Margie had the ability to see the beauty in everything and everyone, and for those that knew her, they would tell you it was an absolute reflection of who she was as a person. Her soul was beautiful.
She loved life. In the simplest, most pure way. Even if that meant enjoying new cloth napkins, or sitting by her koi pond for hours. As she would say, she “gets her jollies” from it. She had all kinds of phrases, too. She made everything special, because she was special. Vivacious, she might say, is the right word. She always had the right words, due partially to the fact that you could always find her reading. She was a legendary cook. Moreover, she loved to cook for people.
She was the epitome of a mom – tender and warm, and an adored wife, married to Tom for over 50 years. They met in 7th grade, and were inseparable ever since. After they started their life together, not a day went by where they didn’t have their morning coffee, or nightly drink, just sitting and talking with one another. Together, they were the best primary example of love.
As tender and warm as Margie was, she was fiercely strong. Through surviving open-heart surgery, cancer, and the hospitalizations in the last months of her life, she managed to keep her spirit and her sweet smile.
There is no service planned at this time, however, a private celebration of life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Bradford SPCA in the name of Sophie, Margie’s beloved golden retriever.
Margie was the heart of her family, and her spirit lives on in her five children and eight grandchildren. There are no words to describe the depth of sorrow family and friends are left with by her passing. She was light and love personified, and she will be missed beyond measure.
