María nació en Lima, Perú, hija de los difuntos Victoria Cárdenas Huertas y Oliverio Sandoval.
Ayer por la mañana, nuestra querida madre, Maria Emperatriz, falleció en paz, rodeada del amor de sus hijos y nietos. Luchó con fuerza hasta el final. En 1966, nuestra valiente mamita vino a Estados Unidos sin conocer el idioma ni la cultura. Con mucho esfuerzo, trabajó en varios empleos para darnos una vida digna, y también ayudó a sus hermanos en Perú. Le encantaba cocinar. Pasaba todo el día en la cocina preparando deliciosos platos peruanos que unían a la familia y dejaban recuerdos inolvidables.
Gracias, mamita, por tu amor, tu entrega y tus enseñanzas. Siempre te llevaremos en el corazón.
Se llevará a cabo una velación para María el sábado 19 de julio de 2025 de 1:00 p.m. a 4:00 p.m., con un servicio funeral a partir de las 2:00 p.m., en Craciun Berry Funeral Home, 7200 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102

Beloved mother to Vicky (Keith) Ferris, John (Kelley) Hernandez and the late Jesus S. Hernandez; loving Grandma to Xavier Hernandez (Sydney), Samuel Ferris, John Ferris, Christian Ferris, Marisa Hernandez, Haven Hodges, Avery Wahl and Great Grandma Luca Hernandez; treasured sister to Luzmila Huertas vda. Castillo, Lizardo Huertas, Carlos Huertas, Javier Huertas, Toya Huertas, Dora Huertas, Cata Ruiz, the late Alfredo Huertas and the late Eloy Huertas. Maria was born in Lima, Peru to the late Victoria Cardenas Huertas and the late Oliverio Sandoval.
In 1966, our brave mamita took a chance on a new life in the United States—with no grasp of the language or culture—and built a home for her children through sheer grit and unshakable determination. She worked multiple jobs to give us a dignified life, while also supporting her many siblings back in Peru. The kitchen was her sanctuary, a place where love simmered all day long. With every aroma of her Peruvian dishes—carefully prepared with patience and joy—she nourished not just our bodies but our souls. Her meals brought people together, sparked lively conversation, and created unforgettable memories that linger far beyond the last bite.
Thank you, mamita, for your unconditional love, for your sacrifices, and for instilling values that continue to guide us. We will miss you more than words can say.
A visitation for Maria will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM, at Craciun Berry Funeral Home, 7200 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102
