Mary Ruth White was born on October 18, 1929 in Wetumpka, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Mamie Corbitt and Eddie White Sr. They moved to Birmingham, Alabama when she was school age and attended school with her brothers and sisters. Mary Ruth was the oldest child.
Mary married at age 16 to her mother’s best friend’s son, Vance Jones, and they moved to Cleveland, Ohio. A few years later after their divorce, she married Joel Hendricks.
She loved listening to the ‘blues’. Her favorite singer of long ago was Johnny Ace. Mary also loved to dance; and she was a great cook, especially, making biscuits and pastries.
Mary was quiet, kind, compassionate, independent and loved to spend time with family and friends. She worked in the hospital, serving and helping others. She finally retired from McGregor Hospital.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Eddie White Sr., her mother, Mamie C. White; two brothers, Arthur L. White and Eddie White Jr.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a brother, George White (Diane); sisters, Annie Pearl Austin, Lucille Forrest, Sarah Mae Parris and Mozelle Grant; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a special loving, caring and devoted adopted family, Adilene Bass and her daughter, Kimberly B. Jones and son, Ronnie; and a play daughter Christine Walker.
